:: "Happy Birthday" on Easter Sunday? ::
 
The Detroit Tigers are 5&1. Lefty wins a major. And today I turned around in church, shook a kids hand and said "Happy birthday, he is risen, he is risen indeed."

OK, so I'm a moron. At least I can blame it on the steroids and sleep deprivation. But it's tough when an 8-year-old laughs out loud at you in church.

Still, even a moron can take a bit of pleasure in a couple inconsequential, but good things.

I'm so pleased that the Detroit Tigers, my favorite team since my first big league game in 1968, and the worst team in baseball last year, look this year to be something close to decent.

And I'm thrilled that one of golf's best golfers has met his jinx head-on this weekend, adding some discipline to his game as he came from behind to win the "most prestigious tournament in golf."

And I'm still overcome from one of the better Easter sermons I've heard in years, reminded again that because of THE resurrection I can await my own, and know that my grief is bathed in hope.

:: AIDS ORPHANS: Is Anybody Actually Paying Attention ::
 
In the past 18 months or so I have been heartened by the fact that AIDS is less and less a dirty word among people of faith in America, but continue to be grieved that fighting the pandemic remains an uphill battle for Congress and the Whitehouse.

Now, comes this latest estimate: more than 25 million children under 15 will be orphaned by AIDS by the end of this decade.

Dear Jesus, save us from not minding.   more
