Journal Entry: A March 2004 reflection on the post-transplant illnessAfter my successful, and relatively non-eventful stem cell transplant I was sent home to recover. I was given many, many antibiotics as well as a groovy little back pack IV unit for a bunch of drugs and some TPN--Total Parental Nutrition--that was administered daily, since I wasn't really eating anything other than liquids. I also had a daily visit from a home health care nurse. Things were ok, all things considered I guess, except that I was getting a bunch of infections and throwing up a great deal--sometimes as many as 12 or 15 times a day. Eventually the home health care nurse had me readmitted into the hospital on Oct 16, where I stayed for nearly 2 weeks. It was not pretty--since then the nurses have described me as the sickest non-fatal cancer patient they've had. Lovely. Anyway, the next couple of journal/updates are without ANY edits, because Sheri says the typos are worse than normal and are therefore funnier than normal.
